Just as in 1Q84, the renowned Japanese author Haruki Murakami constructs two diametrically opposed yet intricately interwoven worlds, each maintaining its distinct identity, structure, and irreducible physiognomy, so does the parallel artistic worlds of photographers Mira Marincaș and István Havadi-Nagy-David communicate and converge. Their parallel universes engage in a visual dialogue within a conceptual and experimental aesthetic framework. Both artists are rooted in the postmodern, neo-expressionist, and conceptualist tradition of the Cluj art scene, a milieu characterized by openness and experimentation, using a raw visual language and technical innovation.
The “Q” in the book title refers not to a specific year, but rather to a symbolic designation of a visual universe that parallels the chronological one, a realm populated with its own configurations, events, psychologies, and ideologies, framed against the decaying architectural backdrop of the communist regime. This built environment, corroded and collapsing, becomes an object-symbol of its own condemnation.
